Lifetime
9PM Wednesday
I really thought that Roseanne’s Nuts would leave a bad taste in my mouth, but after watching the first episode I am a changed man.
The 411
Roseanne Barr has left the continental US to start anew on a 40-acre macadamia & livestock farm in Hawaii. She has abandoned the rigors of filming television (uh, until now) and is living a peaceful existence in the serene backdrop of paradise with her long-time, tree-hugging boyfriend Johnny Argent. Her son Jake is also thrown into the mix, but prefers his life in LA to the one in Hawaii.
The Good
The best thing about this show is Roseanne’s son Jake. Whether his lines are scripted or not, he doesn’t hold back on calling BS on his mom and her new life. I love the fact that the show is not pretentious and it has no problem making fun of itself. Roseanne tells her son she’s a nut farmer now and he doesn’t believe her for one second that she is even getting her hands dirty. That is when Roseanne goes on to explain that she is a farmer, but she has farmhands do all the work.

There is another great part where she is trying to convince her son to move to Hawaii and that she left behind all the craziness of LA. Jake then goes on to point out that there is a camera crew of eight guys filming her right now—and they show the crew.
Roseanne’s boyfriend also deserves a shout out. Not only for putting up with Roseanne, but you can definitely see he is the calm, laid-back logical one in the relationship—just like most men. LOL!

The Bad
Honestly, I think the worst thing about this show is Roseanne. She’s actually fine for the most part, but you definitely can detect some overacting at times and she makes me nuts whenever she starts yelling. I can’t believe that whiny, high-pitched shrill has not shattered my TV screen.
The production of the show is not too bad, but I do think they put in way to many sound effects and back ground music. It really lessens the value of the show, which may be an oxymoron since we are talking reality television here.
The End Result
I’m sure fans of Roseanne will absolutely love this show and it is tolerable if you’re stuck watching this with your spouse. I really was expecting so much worse. Not going to say I was pleasantly surprised, but I was surprised at Roseanne’s ability to pick up where she left off after such a long hiatus from television. Since her return to television seems to be an early success, let’s just hope she doesn’t try to revive her singing career.
