I go on vacation for one week and there are some major changes at Cups Frozen Yogurt in Clifton, NJ. Don't worry, after you read this update, you'll be in the know with the fro-yo.
Me Love You Long Line
Part of the Cups experience is waiting in line and depending on the time of day (or night), that line can stretch down pretty far. The end product is so frigging good, that standing in line doesn't even phase me any more and when I interviewed customers at Cups waiting in line--it didn't seem to phase them either.
Believe it or not, there are other businesses in the Promenade besides Cups and Zinburger, so I could only imagine the constant line of people was becoming somewhat of an obstacle to the customers that frequent those establishments.
Now when you visit Cups, you will notice that the line for Cups is by the curb and the large portion of the sidewalk by the store windows is for thoroughfare. There are also sizable breaks in the Cups line creating different sections, so people can easily enter a store. So don't be a tool and respect the new line rule.
Sanitize Before Getting the Prize
I can’t say that I didn’t see this one coming. As much as I love Cups, the one negative (besides sharing) is touching the dispenser that thousands of people touch each day. Most people are civilized, but I’m not going to lie—I’ve seen some pretty gross things go on while waiting to pay for my fro-yo.
Thankfully, Cups recently installed two sanitizer stations before you get your cup and a huge-ass sign above them asking you to clean your hands before you pump. I can only hope that parents will relay and enforce the message to their little ones. If not, I sure will!

Sticky Fingers
One thing is abundantly clear now—keep your damn fingers out of the yogurt! Of course, Cups has a much more polite way of relaying the message than myself—each flavor section is marked with the following, “No Fingers Please – Sample Cups Available.” I will take that one step further and urge you to keep any appendage you have out of the fro-yo until you are outside the building.
And just in case you didn’t see the humungous sanitizer sign or the obvious labels above each dispenser, Cups installed plastic guards in front of the nozzles that dole out the delicious frozen yogurt. This last line of defense should keep out those pesky fingers so everyone can enjoy a germ-free fro-yo.

The End Result
I have to say that as a loyal customer and Cups connoisseur, I really appreciate all the effort to control the line outside and keep other people’s germs out of my cup! This not only makes me feel better as a consumer, but it also shows me that the company cares about its customers.
The only addition I would make if I was the Cups commander in charge is a “No Licking Rule.” I would have a napkin dispenser by each yogurt station for when your cup overruneth because all the sanitizing in the world is instantly negated the second a person gets yogurt on their fingers and instinctively licks it off.
