The Food Network

8:00PM Mondays

Just like American Idol, not winning The Next Food Network Star is not necessarily the worst thing that can happen to your career. Current host of Kid in a Candy Store, Adam Gertler, didn't win Season Four, but is already on his second television series while I can't even remember who won The Next Food Network Star that season.

The 411

This dude has the best job--traveling around the US in search of unique desserts. The show takes a look at different shops and even goes into manufacturing plants to give you a look at how your favorite sweets are made.

The Good

A show about desserts? How can it fail? The Food Network found the perfect host for this show. Adam Gertler is actually an adult, but the kid inside of him comes out so easily behind the camera that you can't help but like him.

Not only do you get to see a wide array of interesting desserts--you also get to go behind the scenes to see how these amazing concoctions are created. Adam will make you laugh and even teach you a thing or two before the show is over.

The Not So Good

There are only two gripes I have with the show: 1. I read that they only made six episodes which is very disappointing. 2. There should be more information on how to find the places that are featured on the show.

To DVR or Not to DVR

Any fan of desserts or people that love to see how stuff is manufactured will like this show. It is only a half hour, so it won't take up much room on your DVR and it is a quick watch that will leave you wanting more. Adam Gertler has been an on-screen gem since he first appeared on the Food Network and I would watch a show about paint drying if he was the host.

Check out my interview with Adam Gertler.
