Jerseylicious Episode Recap: "Cover Castrophe?"

Posted by Frank Ranu of Ranu's Reviews on May 25, 2010 at 12:37 AM

The last episode for season one opens up with Frankie and Gigi bowling at the Manville Lanes in NJ. If you’re from the area, you’ll know the most famous “Frank” once had his own chicken house in Manville.

Gigi is concerned about her upcoming two-year anniversary. She thinks that he’s not going to do anything special. We find out that he is, but like most women, Gigi is particularly nosey, so it is hard to surprise her.

Breakfast at Epiphanys

Briella, who looks much better since she ditched that hat she had on a few weeks back, is at the apartment with her little cousin and Olivia is practicing doing the kid’s makeup. The young girl is so happy that she wants Olivia to do her makeup for prom. Given Olivia’s history of punctuality, this kid better get her makeup did the day before!

If you look closely, you can see a rhinestone-covered light bulb go off in Olvia’s head. Why wasn’t the Glam Fairy going after a younger target market? I think the main reason is that brides pay cash and Alexa can’t pay her bills if she starts accepting silly bands as payment from these children.

The A-Team

We find out from Gayle that the Gatsby is one of two finalists for the cover of NJ Life Health & Beauty. The magazine crew is coming by the Gatsby to do a photo shoot for the cover. Gayle decides to put the people with the most experience on the task of preparing for the cover—Anthony and Alexa.

Tracy isn’t too pleased with Gayle’s decision and wants to get on board—making this the T&A--Team. I’m sure she will put her breast—I mean, best foot forward in contributing to the photo shoot.

Tracy whips up a few sketches for hair ideas as the A-Team is brainstorming. Everyone likes her sketches, but Gayle is reluctant to let her on the team because drama follows Tracy wherever she goes in that salon.

Gayle allows Tracy to help with the shoot, but she also has to help Olivia with her fashion show. Of course, Tracy wants nothing to do with Olivia’s fashion show, but she has to make that sacrifice in order to be at the photo shoot.

Briella Knows Botox

Briella and Olivia are at the diner—again! And they are eating—again! I would love to know how these chicks stay so thin—especially Briella. I think Briella is eating in 75% of her air time. Now this chick is definitely under 25 and she has already received multiple injections of botox. She will probably never get any botox near her mouth because Briella would not be able to consume her Jersey-sized portions of diner food.

Olivia is sharing her idea with Briella about expanding Alexa’s business and the only thing Brilla is concerned about expanding is her mouth on her huge-ass chef salad. After finding out Olivia spent two hours at lunch—she dashes out of there while Briella appears to be in no rush. Does this chick work? She didn’t seem the least bit concerned about her two hour lunch.

Quit Bitchin’ & Start Pitchin’

Olivia tries to hide her two-hour lunch period from Alexa by proposing a way to expand the Glam Fairy business. If Alexa saw the amount of food that Olivia and Briella ordered, she might have been more understanding about her tardiness. Alexa had that “cha-ching” look in her eyes, but was skeptical of Olivia’s proposition. She wants Olivia to submit a formal business proposal and something tells me this proposal is going to be very similar to Elle Woods' resume from Legally Blonde.

Mr. Advice

Gigi is once again worried about her two-year anniversary with Frankie. She is telling Anthony and Tracy the story of how they met at Dunkin’ Donuts. I heard this story at least twice before, so I find it hard to fathom that Gigi has never revealed how they first met to her co-workers before the season finale.

Good thing she isn’t at Frankie’s house. Frankie Sr. brings up to excellent points: “The more you give, the more they expect” and “Once you’re married, you’re done. You don’t have to do anything anymore.” If only the latter was true.

Glammy Throw Down

It is the day of the big photo shoot and Alexa confesses that she has been worried about this cover for weeks—NOT! This might be Tracy’s first photo shoot, but not Alexa’s. Coming from someone that has picked on Alexa before—I get the feeling that everyone is busting her chops on this shoot.

The magazine folks would like the make up to be softer before they even looked at the Snow White through the camera. Gayle agreed that they would fix the make up right away, but that is going to be tough to do with Alexa heading off the set. She feels a tad insulted that they criticized her work in front of everyone and goes behind closed doors.

Gayle chases after Alexa and asks her to come back to fix the model’s makeup, but Alexa refuses to come out. Tracy steps up to help Gayle “fix” the makeup on the model. How do you not love Tracy’s game? Say what you want about her, but this Jersey girl sure as hell knows how to work it!

Seven days later, Alexa emerges from behind the closed door to confront Gayle in the break room. Gayle is pretty upset with the Glam Fairy, however, by the end of the conversation Gayle flip flops. I’ve noticed that every single argument Gayle has on this show—she eventually folds under pressure like origami.

The Big Show

Olivia is working hard all week to make sure the fashion show is a success. Looks like she took a trip to a campus at Rutgers with Briella and Filippo to recruit people to come to her fashion show and even put together a pretty thick business proposal for Alexa. As long as Filippo put his phone number on the flyers—I’m sure there will be plenty of women there.

Gigi and Tracy are doing hair and Olivia is doing all the makeup—“solo dolo” as she puts it. Everything is falling into place until Olivia realizes that the seventh model is MIA. She probably went to KFC to try the new Double Down sandwich, but Tracy once again steps up and calls the missing model for Olivia. Now she called her, told her the show was canceled and then told Olivia the model was sick—but she did call her!

With no seventh model in sight—Olivia asks Gigi if she would model the dress and Gigi turns her down. Tracy also declines even though Olivia never asked her. Olivia has no choice but to be the model herself. The show was a success and Alexa was also impressed with Olivia’s business proposal.

Frankie Goes to Dunkin Donuts

Frankie has a big surprise for their two-year anniversary. Somehow by the magic of television, he rents out the Dunkin Donuts where they first met and transforms it into a romantic restaurant complete with violin player. He then gives her a ring, but not “the” ring. Gigi is crying, Frankie is professing his love to her and I just threw up in my mouth.

Cover Girl

The last scene of the season is at the magazine cover release party. It is between the Gatsby and the Bella Pia salon in East Hanover, NJ. This is soooo tense. I wonder who is going to win. LOL! Of course the Gatsby won the cover and now comes the set up for season two.

Coming Next Season

Is Tracy going to kick Lorenzo and his Benzo to the curb? Will Gigi’s wedding dreams turn into a nightmare? The answers might already lie on Facebook if you’re a creeper. Olivia is going to have to make a choice between the Gatsby and the Glam Fairy (and Alexa’s crazy laugh). Christy is knocked up and will Anthony even come back now that his salon is finished? And will they film at least one scene when Briella is not eating? You’ll have to watch season two for all the answers!
